Today’s reality is that in many countries examinations are one of the main parts of the modern educational system. Although this is only my opinion, I think that the advantages of writing tests or examinations do not outweigh the disadvantages.
Firstly, a percentage of people might disagree but, everyone
truly knows that not sleeping all night just to prepare for a test and
sacrifice a part of your mental health is truly a nightmare. Students get
stressed, have breakdowns just because of a piece of paper, quite tragic.
However, it is not the only drawback. Secondly, lots of students despise it
when the teacher compares grades, it makes them feel like rubbish, they lose
inspiration to continue spending time on education, in addition some students
might even lose confidence. Lastly, let us not lie to ourselves, we all know
that most of today’s tests do not check our knowledge or logic, what they
really check is the strength of our memory and how hard or quickly can we cram
information.
Let’s proceed to the advantages of examinations. Firstly, as
we all know there are competitive people, and people whose confidence might get
increased because of the fact that they have a higher grade than all of their
classmates, these people aren’t exactly egoistic, they just like to feel
superior and what is provided today in the grading system is a cherry on top for
them if they work hard enough. Secondly and lastly, the experience which you
get because of writing a number of examinations might help you in your future challenging
tests, some might imagine examinations as a wall which is ought to be destroyed
by time, and as the time goes and you get better at knowing quick ways of
preparation and studying hacks the wall gets crushed easier.
To conclude, the listed disadvantages are greater in number
than the advantages, and I still do not agree with the fact that it is worth
suffering for a grade but! suffering for the experience is a different
question.
